There's something profoundly magical about freezing moments where art breathes—where the artist's hand meets canvas in a dance of raw expression. That's why I'm thrilled to invite you into a deeply personal chapter of my work: my recent collaboration with the extraordinary Marta Pacini, a visionary female artist based in the city of Rome. What began as a simple invitation to document her studio evolved into an immersive odyssey, one that left me forever changed by the power of her surreal visions. Nestled in the heart of Rome's vibrant artistic quarter, Marta's studio is a sanctuary of controlled chaos—a sun-drenched space alive with the scent of oil paints and the whisper of brushes against textured surfaces. I photographed not just the finished masterpieces but the intimate portraits of Marta herself—capturing her intense focus as she layered strokes, her eyes alight with the fire of invention, her hands stained with the bold blacks and ethereal whites that define her palette. These portraits, raw and revealing, peel back the layers of the artist behind the art, showing the quiet determination and joyful abandon that fuel her process. Her paintings explode with surreal, expressive figures—elongated forms that twist and contort like echoes of classical sculptures reimagined through a dreamlike haze. Intricate black-and-white lines weave through her compositions, creating a labyrinth of contrasts: the stark drama of deep shadows against luminous voids, delicate filigree strokes that suggest fragility, and bold, sweeping marks that pulse with unbridled energy.
